Bigger Than Boise to bring music, comedy, trivia to First Night

by ERIN KOSNAC
Staff Writer

First Night Dover has something to satisfy everyone's music tastes.

An Elvis impersonator. A Celtic duo. A traditional rock band. A classical pianist.

And a group that's bigger than Idaho's capital city.

Pennsylvania-based Bigger Than Boise will perform shows at 6:30 p.m., 8:15 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, in McNinch Hall at the Schwartz Center for the Arts, North and State streets, Dover, as part of the annual New Year's celebration.

Bigger Than Boise is made up of Cindy Barber (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and April Ives (vocals, lead guitar) - both triple threats as singers, songwriters and guitarists.

Formed in March 1996, the duo's sound can best be described as contemporary acoustic, combining jazz, rock, blues, folk and classical influences.

And along with a blend of songs from the '60s and original music, Bigger Than Boise's performances feature comedy and trivia for audiences of all ages.

The duo, which regularly plays venues throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey, performs a number of original songs, most written by Barber, and covers artists including Neil Diamond, the Indigo Girls, Carole King, R.E.M. and The Beatles.
